The National Jewish Assembly commends the Prime Minister of the UK, Rishi Sunak, and Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, and for their meeting on 24 March 2023 to strengthen the partnership between the two countries.
The leaders discussed the signing of the UK-Israel 2030 Roadmap, which will commit £20m in funding for joint science and technology projects over the next decade. They also expressed their support for a modern free-trade agreement with cutting-edge service provisions.
The leaders discussed shared security and defence challenges, including Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the threat posed by Iran to regional stability. They agreed to work closely together to push back against aggression and manage the risk of nuclear proliferation.
Prime Minister Sunak expressed his solidarity with Israel in the face of recent terrorist attacks, while also urging efforts to de-escalate tensions in the West Bank to avoid undermining the two-state solution.
The leaders stressed the importance of upholding democratic values, including in proposed judicial reforms in Israel. The National Jewish Assembly welcomes the meeting as a positive step towards furthering the strong partnership between Israel and the UK, and looks forward to continued collaboration in areas such as science, technology, and security.
