National Jewish Assembly Condemns Alleged Antisemitic Incident at Manchester Children’s Hospital

The National Jewish Assembly (NJA) expresses deep concern and alarm over disturbing allegations of mistreatment of a young Jewish patient at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. According to reports, the child, who suffers from a serious auto-immune blood disease, was allegedly subjected to discrimination by nurses wearing ‘Free Palestine’ badges.

The NJA is appalled by the reported mistreatment of the young boy, who was visibly wearing his kippa and tzitzit, symbols of his Jewish faith. No individual should ever be subjected to discrimination or harassment based on their religious or ethnic identity, especially when seeking medical treatment.

NJA Chairman Gary Mond said, “We are deeply troubled by the allegations of mistreatment against this young Jewish patient. No one should ever face discrimination or harassment, especially in a healthcare setting where compassion and care should be paramount. The NJA stands firm in our commitment to combating antisemitism and ensuring that members of the Jewish community are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.”

Allegations that the child was forced out of his bay and made to lie on the floor while receiving medical care are deeply troubling and unacceptable. Every patient, regardless of their background, deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.

Antisemitism has no place in our society, and incidents like these underscore the urgent need for greater awareness, education, and action to combat all forms of discrimination and prejudice.

The NJA calls for a thorough investigation into this matter by Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and urges appropriate disciplinary action against any staff found to have engaged in discriminatory behaviour. It is essential that steps are taken to ensure the safety and well-being of all patients, regardless of their religious or ethnic background.

As an organisation committed to promoting tolerance, understanding, and respect for all individuals, the NJA stands in solidarity with the young boy and his family during this difficult time. The NJA calls upon the hospital administration to take immediate and decisive action to address these allegations and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
