NJA Celebrates Yom Ha’atzmaut

On Tuesday 14 May, over 250 members of the National Jewish Assembly (NJA) and the wider community gathered at Finchley United Synagogue to celebrate the 76th anniversary of the founding of the modern State of Israel. This significant event underscored the continued importance of solidarity and remembrance within the Jewish community, particularly during these challenging times.

The evening was marked by heartfelt speeches that both celebrated Israel’s achievements and reflected on its persistent threats. Michael Marlowe and Sharone Lifschitz delivered profoundly moving speeches. Marlowe, the father of Jake Marlowe, aged 26, a victim from the Nova Festival massacre, and Lifschitz, whose mother Yocheved was released in an exchange, while her father Oded remains captive, shared personal stories that reminded us of the real human toll and the importance of remembering those who we, the Jewish people, have lost.

Gary Mond, Chairman of the NJA, spoke about the unyielding spirit of the Israeli people and the need for continued support from global Jewry. The event also featured notable speakers including Vladimir Bermant, founder of the Britain Israel Forum, Reverend Hayle Ace, Co-Founder of Christian Action Against Antisemitism, and Elan Gorji, CEO of the Jewish National Fund UK.

The speakers shared their important work in supporting Israel and combatting antisemitism. The NJA reiterates its sincere gratitude for the support and fraternity of its Christian friends.

This year’s NJA Yom Ha’aztmaut party was proudly supported by several sponsors, including: El Al, the Jewish National Fund, the Hostages and Missing Families Forum UK, the Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry United Kingdom, CAMERA UK, the Britain Israel Forum, and Stand With Us.

The guests were honoured to receive a video message from President Herzog, which was screened during the event along with a film showcasing the important work of JNF UK.

The NJA extends a special thank you to Dalia Hajioff, NJA Events Manager, for her tireless efforts in organising yet another successful celebration. Her dedication was instrumental in bringing together such a large and enthusiastic crowd to honour this significant day in Jewish history.
