The National Jewish Assembly (NJA) applauds the decisive actions taken by the United Kingdom and the United States to impose targeted sanctions on the leadership of Hamas. These stringent measures, including travel bans, asset freezes, and arms embargoes, demonstrate a strong commitment to disrupt the terror group’s operations and hold its leaders accountable for their actions.
On November 14, 2023, the UK and US jointly announced a coordinated effort to target Hamas leadership, aiming to disrupt the group’s activities not only in Gaza but also wherever their leaders operate. The NJA commends this united stance against terrorism and stands firmly in support of these measures.
Among the individuals subject to these sanctions are Yahya Sinwar, the political leader of Hamas in Gaza, and Muhammed Deif, the commander of the group’s military arm. These leaders, responsible for brutal attacks on Israel, will now face the consequences of their actions.
The NJA fully supports these sanctions and emphasises that no Hamas leader should escape accountability, whether they operate within or outside Gaza. The NJA acknowledges the importance of isolating Hamas on the world stage and preventing their ability to carry out acts of terror.
Foreign Secretary David Cameron stated, “We will continue to use every tool at our disposal to disrupt the abhorrent activity of this terrorist organisation, working with the United States and our other allies, making it harder for them to operate and isolating them on the world stage.”
The NJA commends the UK and US governments for taking this strong stance against Hamas and reiterates its commitment to support efforts that promote peace and security in the region.
