We Believe Alliance Drives Lords Vote on IRGC Ban
The We Believe Alliance (WBA) has driven the issue of proscribing Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) onto the parliamentary agenda, helping drive a vote in the House of Lords pushing MPs toward a ban.
In February, WBA convened a high-level briefing in the House of Lords, bringing together MPs, peers, and leading policy experts to set out the case for proscribing both the IRGC and the Muslim Brotherhood. The briefing presented clear, evidence-based analysis of the IRGC’s global network and the wider ideological infrastructure underpinning extremism, alongside a direct call for UK policy to act.
That intervention moved the issue from debate to decision.
The House of Lords has now voted to push MPs toward banning the IRGC.
The tone in Parliament has hardened.
What had been deferred for years has been forced into the centre of political attention.
Following the House of Lords vote, the momentum generated in Parliament is now translating into Government action. The Prime Minister has just recently indicated that steps are being taken to bring forward legislation to proscribe the IRGC, confirming the direction of travel now set in motion by sustained parliamentary pressure led by the We Believe Alliance.
Roger Walters of the We Believe Alliance said:
“We took the case for proscription into the House of Lords, put the evidence directly in front of decision-makers, and ensured this issue could no longer be ignored. The vote now reflects that shift, and the Government is beginning to act on it.”
This is a clear breakthrough, but not the outcome.
The IRGC remains un-proscribed, and the wider challenge, including the role of the Muslim Brotherhood, is still not being addressed with the seriousness it requires. Momentum must now be sustained and intensified until it delivers full policy change.
We Believe Alliance will continue to drive this campaign inside Parliament, through further briefings, direct engagement with MPs, and sustained pressure at the highest levels.
Alongside its parliamentary work, We Believe Alliance is calling for public action to reinforce that momentum.
