The NJA Joins International Call for the UK to Designate Iran’s IRGC as a Terror Organisation

The NJA unequivocally supports the ongoing efforts to encourage the UK to proscribe the Iranian regime’s IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) as a terrorist organisation.

We are heartened that this topic was tabled during a recent meeting between UK Minister of State for the Middle East Lord Ahmad, and Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen.

The IRGC was established after Iran experienced a violent Islamist revolution in 1979, and is used by the Iranian regime to crush domestic opposition, export its particular brand of Shi’ite terrorism across the Middle East and the world at large, and develop Iran’s ballistic missile and nuclear programs.

The IRGC’s targeting of individuals across the world, including in the UK and Europe, demonstrates that the IRGC is a global terror threat that, left unchecked, significantly compromises the safety and security of the UK.

Proscribing the IRGC will significantly hinder the organisation’s ability to operate, recruit, and raise funds in the UK.

The NJA encourages the UK to take a clear opportunity to exemplify its leadership in global affairs by joining the growing list of countries that have proscribed the IRGC, including the USA, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain.
