NJA To Host Yair Zivan

The National Jewish Assembly (NJA) is proud to announce an upcoming online event featuring Yair Zivan, a renowned political commentator and author, to discuss his latest book, “The Centre Must Hold.” The event will take place on 12 September 2024, at 7:00 PM via Zoom.

In a time of increasing political polarisation, where the extremes on both the left and right are gaining momentum, the importance of a strong, stable centre cannot be overstated. Jewish history has shown us time and again that political extremes seldom leave our community unscathed. The disintegration of the centre, where reasoned debate and balanced perspectives once thrived, poses a serious threat not only to societal stability but to the safety and security of the Jewish people.

Yair Zivan, with his extensive experience and insight, will delve into how centrism can serve as a bulwark against the rising tide of extremism. He will discuss the vital role centrism plays in maintaining a cohesive society, where different perspectives can coexist without descending into hostility and violence. Zivan’s book, The Centre Must Hold, offers a timely exploration of these themes, making a compelling case for why the centre is essential for safeguarding our communities and the broader social fabric.

The event is particularly pertinent given the alarming fraying of this social fabric by various factions—Islamists, radical leftists, white supremacists, and others—each pulling in different directions, thereby threatening to tear apart the very structure of our society. In such a volatile climate, where the extremes increasingly dominate the conversation, it is crucial that the centre holds firm.

This event is a must-attend for anyone concerned about the future of our society and the stability of our democratic institutions. It offers a unique opportunity to engage with one of the leading thinkers on the subject of political centrism and to better understand how we can all contribute to a more balanced and secure future.
