National Jewish Assembly Slams Lord Ahmad’s Wilful Blindness in Failure to Condemn Palestinian Agitators’ Desecration of Al Aqsa Mosque

In response to Lord Ahmad’s recent tweet regarding an Israeli security operation on Temple Mount on April 4, 2023, the National Jewish Assembly (NJA) issues this press release to express its strong condemnation of Lord Ahmad’s wilful blindness and selective bias towards the actions of the Palestinian agitators who desecrated the Muslim holy site.

On April 4, 2023, Palestinian agitators barricaded themselves in the mosque and proceeded to launch fireworks at Israeli security forces personnel when they entered the mosque to remove the agitators.

The coordinated and planned actions of these Palestinian agitators directly impedes the freedom of worship for Muslims visiting the site during Ramadan. Despite this, and the dozens of videos that have been made publicly available that clearly corroborate these events, Lord Ahmad’s tweet only criticised Israeli security forces for their actions, without mentioning the actions of the Palestinian agitators.

As the Minister of State for the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia and United Nations at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, it behooves Lord Ahmad to report all the facts rather than pushing a one-sided narrative that overplays the Israeli response, and makes no mention of the Palestinian agitation, desecration, and illegal behaviour.

The NJA calls on Lord Ahmad to retract his tweet and issue a public statement condemning the actions of the Palestinian agitators who desecrated Al Aqsa Mosque. The NJA also urges Lord Ahmad to acknowledge the importance of respecting and protecting the sanctity and status of the holy sites, including Al Aqsa Mosque, and to specifically highlight that the actions of these Palestinian agitators clearly desecrate the site.

The NJA remains committed to promoting peaceful coexistence between all communities and religions in the region and will continue to monitor developments closely.
