On Tuesday, 4th March 2025, the National Jewish Assembly (NJA) was delighted to host a highly informative event titled “SKA: Bringing Kosher to Every Table”, featuring special guest Rabbi David Neifeld, Director of the Sephardi Kashrut Authority (SKA) and NJA Advisory Board member.
In a momentary departure from the NJA’s usual focus on politics and communal security, this enlightening session explored the fundamentals of kashrut, the work of the SKA, and how kosher food has become increasingly accessible to Jews across the UK.
Reflecting on the unifying power of kashrut throughout Jewish history, Rabbi Neifeld remarked, “For over 4,000 years, kashrut has been one of the key features that has kept us together as a people. Judaism is not just about the synagogue or major festivals, but about everyday life – even the seemingly mundane act of eating and drinking.”
Rabbi Neifeld provided a detailed explanation of the complex halachic frameworks that underpin modern kosher certification, as well as the SKA’s commitment to ensuring kosher food is both widely available and rigorously supervised. Speaking on the SKA’s mission, he noted, “We are very proud of our work in making kashrut more accessible while maintaining the highest standards. That’s why our tagline is ‘Bringing Kosher to Every Table’ – because we believe kosher food should be available to all who wish to keep it.”
Attendees were also treated to insights into the SKA’s innovative community services, including its new online product search tool and the forthcoming Pesach guide designed to help consumers navigate Passover shopping with ease.
The NJA extends its thanks to Rabbi Neifeld for sharing his expertise and passion with our members.
Continuing its dynamic programme of events, the NJA invites the community to join Shai DeLuca in conversation on Sunday, 9th March, in North London, where the outspoken Israeli-Canadian media personality will discuss the fight against misinformation and standing up for Israel. Full details are available on the NJA website.
