NJA Congratulates Sir Keir Starmer on General Election Victory

The National Jewish Assembly (NJA) extends its congratulations to Sir Keir Starmer on his successful campaign and victory in the 2024 UK General Election. The NJA recognises the significance of this moment and looks forward to engaging constructively with the new government on issues that matter deeply to the British Jewish community.

The NJA also wishes to express its gratitude to outgoing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak for his unwavering support of the British Jewish community and his steadfast support for Israel during its ongoing war against Hamas. Under his leadership, the UK has shown a commendable commitment to fighting antisemitism and supporting Israel’s right to defend itself.

Gary Mond, Chairman of the NJA, stated, “We congratulate Sir Keir Starmer on his election victory. This is a pivotal moment for the UK, and we look forward to seeing how the new government addresses the concerns of the Jewish community. We also extend our deepest thanks to Rishi Sunak for his dedication to our community and his principled stand with Israel during challenging times.”

As the new government takes shape, the British Jewish community is cautiously optimistic but remains vigilant. The true test of whether Labour has effectively eradicated its antisemitism problem will be revealed in the coming months. While progress has been made, there are still pressing issues that require attention, such as Labour’s stance on recognising a Palestinian state and the UK’s continued support for Israel in its fight against Hamas.

“The Jewish community will be closely monitoring the new government’s actions and policies,” Mond continued. “It is imperative that the UK maintains its support for Israel’s right to self-defence and continues to stand against the terrorism that threatens both Israel and global stability. We urge Sir Keir Starmer to uphold these values and ensure that antisemitism is met with zero tolerance.”

The NJA remains committed to advocating for the rights and security of the Jewish community. The NJA remains ready to work with the new government to ensure that our concerns are addressed and that the UK continues to be a safe and welcoming place for all its citizens.
