NJA Condemns Spain, Norway and Ireland for Recognising Palestinian State

The National Jewish Assembly (NJA) vehemently condemns the recent decisions by Spain, Norway, and Ireland to recognise a Palestinian state. This decision is not only morally bankrupt but also strategically misguided, as it rewards terrorism and undercuts a steadfast liberal democratic ally, Israel.

NJA Chairman Gary Mond stated, “This decision by Spain, Norway and Ireland is a grievous misstep. It undermines the liberal democratic alliance and jeopardises the security of Israel, a key ally. Recognising a state that does not meet the basic criteria of statehood is a blow to international law and order. It emboldens terrorists and detracts from the genuine pursuit of peace and justice in the region.”

Recognising a Palestinian state under the current conditions sends a dangerous message: terrorism pays. This decision comes in the wake of the largest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust, perpetrated by the Hamas terror organisation on October 7. By recognising a Palestinian state, these countries are effectively rewarding Hamas and Iran, thus encouraging further acts of terror and undermining global security efforts.

It is crucial to understand that there is no agreed-upon territory for a Palestinian state, nor is there a legitimate government with the mandate to rule. The Palestinian territories are divided between Hamas, a recognised terrorist organisation, and the corrupt and inept Palestinian Authority. Neither entity possesses the necessary state apparatus or governance structures to be regarded as a legitimate state. This recognition, therefore, lacks any foundation in international law or political reality.

Moreover, this decision does nothing to advance Palestinian rights. On the contrary, it perpetuates the suffering of Palestinians under the oppressive regimes of Hamas and the Palestinian Authority. These entities have consistently suppressed the rights of their own people, using them as pawns in their political games while neglecting their welfare and basic human rights.

The National Jewish Assembly calls on the international community to reject this reckless decision and instead support efforts to dismantle Hamas, restore security, and bring peace to the region. Recognising a phantom state only erodes the prospects for a genuine, lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
