NJA Condemns Antisemitic Agenda of Pro-Palestinian Protesters and Praises Met Police for Robust Action

The National Jewish Assembly (NJA) strongly condemns the disgraceful conduct of protesters at Saturday’s pro-Palestinian demonstration in London. While masquerading as a call for a “ceasefire,” the rally exposed its true nature: a radical, antisemitic agenda intent on demonising Israel, spreading hate, and threatening the safety of the Jewish community. The display of swastikas, chants of “intifada,” and the shocking targeting of synagogues are a grotesque affront to decency and an alarming escalation in antisemitic rhetoric.

We commend the Metropolitan Police for their decisive action in arresting 77 individuals who defied lawful restrictions and sought to breach containment zones near synagogues and the BBC. This firm response marks a turning point in addressing the unacceptable criminality and hate espoused by these so-called “ceasefire” activists. For too long, such protests have disrupted Jewish life in London and beyond, forcing congregants to reconsider attending their places of worship out of fear.

Laurence Julius, NJA Vice Chairman, stated, “We appreciate the efforts of the Met to ensure Jews can go and pray in a synagogue on a Shabbat morning in the normal way without fear of intimidation, bullying, or worse. Today set a precedent which needs to be repeated for all future PSC marches.”

The NJA unequivocally calls out the Palestine Solidarity Campaign and its leadership for orchestrating and legitimising these acts of hate under the guise of human rights advocacy. This weekend’s protest revealed once again that the PSC is not interested in peace but in the dismantling of Israel and the proliferation of antisemitic conspiracy theories. The appearance of former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn further highlighted the deeply embedded antisemitic fringe elements within this movement.

The NJA insists that the government and police maintain their vigilance, ensuring that antisemitism, intimidation, and violence are not tolerated on our streets. We also call on civil society leaders to unequivocally denounce the PSC’s dangerous rhetoric, and work toward fostering an environment where the Jewish community feels safe and respected.
