National Jewish Assembly and World Zionist Organisation Host “A Salute to Israel” Event

On 6th November, the National Jewish Assembly (NJA), in partnership with the World Zionist Organisation (WZO), hosted “A Salute to Israel” in London. This special evening celebrated Israel’s resilience and deepened the bond between Israel and the Jewish Diaspora. The event brought together prominent leaders and supporters of Israel for a meaningful evening of speeches, awards, and reflection.

Michael Rowe, Chair of Young NJA, served as MC for the event, guiding attendees through a memorable programme featuring distinguished speakers and honoured guests. Yaakov Hagoel, Chairman of the WZO, addressed the audience in Hebrew, with an English translation displayed on screen. In his remarks, Hagoel highlighted the steadfast support of the UK’s Jewish community, especially in the face of rising antisemitism and difficult global dynamics. “Jewish communities in the Diaspora stand firmly with Israel,” he noted, praising NJA Chairman Gary Mond and all who helped organise the event.

Nivi Feldman from the Hostage and Missing Families Forum UK provided a poignant reminder of the personal toll of the ongoing conflict. “Every life saved is a whole universe,” she said, underscoring the urgency to bring home the remaining hostages. “There are still 101 people with 101 families waiting. Please, G-d, I won’t be needed soon, and they will all be home,” she added, highlighting the human cost and the hope that unites the Jewish community.

Representing Christian Zionists, Reverend Tim Guttman spoke powerfully about the world’s distorted view of Israel. “The world is upside down (afuch),” he observed. “We are witnessing a world where the real victims of genocide are accused of being the perpetrators.” Guttman emphasised the moral clarity needed to support Israel’s struggle, describing it as “a battle between good and evil, darkness and light,” and affirming that “light will always overcome darkness.” He praised Israel’s global contributions, saying, “Since its rebirth, Israel has been a blessing to the world,” and expressed hope that “the silent majority is waking up.”

Neria Meir from the WZO shared insights into the Wall of Heroes – Kir Hagiborim project, a powerful initiative that honours those who have made significant contributions to Israel and the Jewish people. His words underscored the bravery and commitment that continue to shape Israel’s story.

The evening also featured an awards ceremony honouring individuals who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to Jewish and Zionist values. The honourees included NJA Chairman and founder Gary Mond, NJA Managing Director Steve Winston, NJA Events and Projects Manager Dalia Hajioff, Reverend Hayley Ace, Jonny Gould, Yochy Davis, Gideon Falter (in absentia), Nivi Feldman, and Andre Walker (in absentia).

The musical segment, led by Jonny Turgel, brought the event to a heartfelt close with cherished Hebrew songs. The NJA would like to especially thank NJA Events and Projects Manager Dalia Hajioff for her tireless efforts in organising this successful event.

“A Salute to Israel” was a celebration of unity, resilience, and unwavering support for Israel. As Hagoel passionately concluded, “With unwavering determination and faith in our unity, we will stand strong, overcome every challenge, and continue to strengthen the future of the Jewish people.”
