Repost from The Jewish Weekly: ‘Armistice Day Pro-Palestine Protests Reveal a Profound Sickness at the Heart of Britain’

This Armistice Day should have been a moment of unity and remembrance, honouring those who sacrificed everything to defend the freedoms we enjoy. Instead, it exposed a deep sickness within Britain – a movement so disdainful of British values that it chose this sacred day to voice contempt not just for Israel, but for Britain itself, its history, and its people.

The pro-Palestine movement in Britain has evolved far beyond a political stance. What once may have been about foreign policy has transformed into an anti-British crusade, fuelled by radical leftists, Islamist sympathisers, and a cadre of naïve useful idiots. These aren’t just protesters; they’re the tip of a broader ideological spear aimed at dismantling the pillars of British identity. Their disdain for Israel is merely the surface of a deeper resentment that runs through our society, one that is hostile to the nation’s values, history, and, notably, to its Jewish community.

This is not a simple policy debate – it’s a clash of civilisations within Britain itself. On one side, we have British Jewry, who respect Britain’s legacy, who believe in honouring the sacrifices of past generations, and who see Armistice Day as a solemn moment of national unity. On the other, we have a faction that views Britain’s history as a shameful relic, its traditions as oppressive, and its values as obstacles to be dismantled.

This growing faction holds Britain itself in contempt. They see nothing worth preserving in our national memory and have turned days of remembrance into opportunities for protest, disrupting the very symbols that unite us. In their view, there’s no place for patriotic pride or historical commemoration – only the relentless deconstruction of everything that defines Britain.

The Metropolitan Police’s response to this has been, quite frankly, disgraceful. Time and again, the Met has stood by as these activists march through the streets, chanting anstisemitic slogans, displaying hatred towards British institutions, and defacing symbols of our history. Their passivity is not just a failure to enforce the law; it’s a tacit endorsement of the radical agenda unfolding in front of them. By allowing such contempt to go unchecked, the Met is sending a clear message: Britain’s values, its symbols, and its days of remembrance are fair game for those who despise them.

What message does this send to the public, to those who still value this country? When pro-Palestine hate marches go unpunished, it signals to radicals that they have free rein to escalate their hostility. When protesters can desecrate a day of national unity without consequence, it shows that British institutions lack the resolve to stand up for the very nation they serve.

This permissiveness isn’t just a failure of policing; it reflects a broader paralysis within British society. We have become so concerned with appeasing every grievance, so fearful of offending anyone, that we are losing the ability to defend our own values. We have allowed ideological extremists to dominate the public square, replacing respect for our history with disdain, replacing pride with shame.

It’s time to ask ourselves: Is this the future we want for Britain? Are we content to allow our most sacred traditions to be trampled underfoot, our sites of remembrance to be defiled, and our identity to be hollowed out? A society that cannot defend its own values, that allows its symbols to be degraded, is a society on the path to losing itself. And make no mistake – the forces that would dismantle Britain’s heritage will not stop with Armistice Day. Today it’s Israel and its supporters; tomorrow it’s every facet of British history, every institution that defines our culture.

The time for complacency is over. Britain’s heritage deserves more than passive reverence. Our fallen heroes fought for the freedom we enjoy today. It’s our duty to ensure that their sacrifices are honoured, not desecrated, and that those who wish to tear down this country – the very same people who try to intimidate our community – are not empowered by permissiveness.
