NJA Statement on Incident at Israeli Consulate in Munich

The National Jewish Assembly (NJA) expresses its profound concern and condemnation following the shooting incident near the Israeli Consulate and a Nazi-era museum in Munich. We are grateful to the Munich police for their rapid and decisive response, which ensured that no innocent lives were lost. The safety and security of the Israeli Consulate staff and the Jewish community in Munich remain paramount, and we pray for their continued protection during these challenging times.

NJA Chairman Gary Mond stated, “This alarming incident, occurring on the 52nd anniversary of the Munich Olympic attacks, is a stark reminder of the persistent threats faced by Jewish communities worldwide. We commend the swift and effective action of the Munich police, which likely prevented a much more tragic outcome. The NJA stands in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Munich and across Europe, particularly with the European Jewish Association to whom the NJA is proudly affiliated, as we confront these ongoing dangers together.”

Mond continued, “The timing of this incident is deeply unsettling, and we expect to learn more as the situation unfolds. We must remain vigilant and united in the face of such threats, ensuring that our communities are protected and our voices heard.”

The NJA will continue to monitor developments closely and calls on all relevant authorities to investigate this matter thoroughly. We urge the international community to stand firm against the rising tide of antisemitism and violence that threatens the safety and security of Jewish communities across Europe.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Israeli Consulate staff, the Jewish community in Munich, and all those affected by this incident.
