We Believe Alliance Statement on Comments in Greens for Palestine What’s App Group

The We Believe Alliance condemns the reported remarks made in a “Greens for Palestine” What’s App group in which Jews are described in dehumanising terms.

Let us be clear. This is not activism. It is antisemitism, explicit and unapologetic. It follows a pattern seen from the darkest chapters of European history through to the antisemitism that took hold in British politics during the Corbyn years, as seen in similar material exposed in activist WhatsApp groups at the time.

Set against the Green Party’s push to label Zionism as racism, this is no coincidence. Under the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition, denying Jewish self determination is antisemitism. Anti Zionism applies that double standard, denying it to Jews alone while affirming it for others, including Palestinians.

Reports that members of Zack Polanski’s own family have expressed alarm at the direction of this politics only underline the seriousness of what is unfolding.

The Green Party has already shown where it stands. This is not an aberration but a reflection of a political culture in which antisemitism is tolerated, legitimised and allowed to flourish. History tells us where this leads. We ignore it at our peril.
