NJA Statement on Alaa Abd El-Fattah

It is yet another dangerous step on a slippery slope an Egyptian-British individual whose historic social media posts openly championed the killing of Zionists, Israelis and British police officers has been allowed back into the UK with seemingly minimal scrutiny.

We already know where antisemitism disguised as “anti-Zionism” leads: Jews murdered in Washington DC, slaughtered while praying on Yom Kippur in Manchester, targeted on the first night of Chanukah in Bondi, and most recently to two men arrested in Manchester after reportedly saying they wanted to kill as many Jews as possible. These are not abstract warnings, they are the violent consequences of rhetoric that is excused, minimised or ignored.

Against that backdrop, for Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer to say he is “delighted” by this return is not merely careless but a profound moral failure. After months of rightly condemning antisemitic violence, this decision shatters confidence and sends a chilling message to British Jews: that even explicit incitement can be set aside, and that the rot of Jew-hatred will continue to be waved through, even when it is crude, explicit and unmistakable.
